Santa Barbara International Film Festival

The weeks of the SBIFF are my absolute favorite time of year in Santa Barbara. While the city often boasts of low key celebrity locals and visitors, the film festival draws some big names to our area. Two years ago I was lucky enough to meet Sandra Bullock and run-into other nominees while grabbing dinner on State Street. While most film festivals draw huge crowds and expensive costs, SBIFF has always been an intimate appeal to the film industry. And with some of the most stunning theaters and venues, its hard not to smile at the sense of red carpet exclusivity most of us can rarely experience.

Well SBIFF 2012 kicked off yesterday with some highly anticipated films and names contributing to the occasion. Among my favorite Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), there will also be appearances by Rooney Mara (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Viola Davis (The Help), Christopher Plummer, and Martin Scorsese.

Hopefully I'll be able to catch a few screenings this weekend and I'll definitely be on the lookout for noteworthy actors and professionals. You can find the event lineup and tickets here.
